On March 25, Liu Chao, deputy secretary of the municipal party committee and mayor, met with Lin Zhengze, former vice chairman of Kuomintang (KMT), Fan Chenglian, principal member of the standing committee of the KMT and other honored guests before they participate in the 3rd Cross-Strait Cultural (Lei Zu Culture) Exchange Event and the 2018 (Year of the Dog) ancestor-worship ceremony. Huang Wentao, a communication director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council and Zhou Minqian, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Sichuan province also attended the meeting.

Mianyang has an abundance of scientific and technological resources with a solid foundation for industry and a rich cultural heritage. It plays an important role and shoulders historic mission in the development of Sichuan province, Liu said. In recent years, we have actively promoted communications and cooperation in various areas between Mianyang and Taiwan, and established "Two Parks, Two Platforms, Three Events, Three BasesĦħ, Liu said. The brilliant traditional Chinese culture is deeply rooted in the minds of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, constituting their "root" and "soul". Liu sincerely hopes that both sides will advance Cross-Straits cultural exchanges to carry forward the fine traditions of Chinese culture and interpret the zeitgeist in Chinese culture, as well as strengthen the spiritual bonds and heart-felt connection between compatriots on both sides. Both Mianyang and Taiwan have highly complementary resources and are industrially compatible. Liu said he sincerely hopes that both sides will keep with economic principles and promote economic and trade exchanges. He called for more cooperation for both sides in technological innovation, electronic information, modern agriculture, food processing, and tourism to deliver notable outcomes from cross-straits exchanges. Liu proposed greater cooperation between both sides, adding that it will bring practical welfare to compatriots on both sides. He sincerely hopes that both parties will promote people-to-people exchanges and more cooperation in various areas to seek benefits for compatriots on both sides. Liu said that Mianyang will provide a good environment for Taiwan compatriots and enterprises for travelling and investments, striving to achieve mutual benefits and prosperity.

Lin Zhengze and Fan Chenglian expressed their gratitude for being invited to the event. They said that they will actively promote Mianyang and encourage more enterprises to come to Mianyang to seek business opportunities and cooperation. They will continue to promote exchanges and practical cooperation between Taiwan and Mianyang, so as to make greater contributions to the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

Zhao Yingchun, vice mayor and Tan Gang, secretary general of the municipal government also attended the meeting.
