(Mianyang News) On October 24, Liu Chao (deputy secretary of the municipal party committee and mayor) met with Kiyama Kozo, the mayor of Shobara city in Japan, and his party. Ma Hua (chairman of the standing committee of the municipal people's congress) attended the meeting.

Liu Chao said this year is the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. Over the past 45 years, the relations between the two countries have been greatly developed, leaving many useful experiences and inspirations. The exchange and cooperation between China and Japan is an important part of Sino-Japanese relations, which has a solid social foundation and great potential. Shobara is the international friendship city for Mianyang; both cities share the longest history of intercourse and most extensive communication content. since 1990 when the two sides became international friendly cities, both sides have witnessed frequent interaction and visits, increasingly economic and trade cooperation and the enhancing friendships between their people. We sincerely hope that both sides, on the existing basis, will further deepen economic and trade cooperation, strengthen the effective docking of resources including market, capital, technology and enterprise, carry out pragmatic cooperation such fields as modern agriculture, and implement the reached consensus on cooperation. We hope we will further deepen cooperation in science and technology innovation, supporting both research institutions and enterprises to carry out in-depth cooperation in advanced technology, endeavoring to form a group of influential achievements in scientific and technological innovation. We hope we will further promote non-governmental exchanges, promoting the friendly exchanges between young people and the communities, constantly enhancing mutual understanding, building mutual trust and friendships, promoting the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides to a new level and making a positive contribution for the development of Sino-Japanese friendship.

Kiyama Kozo said that since 1990 when Shobara became the international friendship city of Mianyang, both cities have launched a series of friendly exchanges and established a profound friendship. We will take this visit as an opportunity to promote the friendly exchanges in wider and in-depth range, to strengthen the pragmatic cooperation in agriculture, culture, education, environmental protection and youth activities and other fields, and to promote exchanges between the two sides to achieve more substantive results.
