Nearly 60 Amazing Intangible Cultural Heritage Projects Unveil in Chengdu

The 6th China (Chengdu) International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival Unveils Yesterday

Report from our correspondent Wan Yi (texts and pictures by Peng Xue), the 6th China (Chengdu) International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival (hereinafter referred to as ICH Festival) unveiled on 10th, June 2017 in Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Exposition Park. Almost 60 characteristic ICH projects made public appearance in No.5 Mianyang Pavilion in Xichengshi Square.

With the theme of ¡°Ingenuity and Unique Charm • Craftsmanship of Mianyang¡±, the Mianyang Pavilion of this ICH Festival presented splendid intangible cultural heritage of Mianyang and inheritance and development achievement by ways of pictures, texts, LED videos, physical display, spot demonstration of art and skills, stage performance, product sales exhibition and interactive experiences. The Mianyang Pavilion of the ICH Festival is divided into 3 parts. The first part is the exhibition area of excellent works and skills, centered around such development strategies as ¡°The Belt and Road¡±, ¡°Revitalizing Traditional Arts and Crafts¡±, ¡°Tibetan, Qiang and Yi Cultural Corridor¡±, "Implementation of the Program to Inherit and Develop Chinese Excellent Traditional Cultures", focusing on presenting the outstanding effects and lively practices in aspects of taking advantages in intangible cultural heritage resources, promoting cultural targeted poverty alleviation, leading people to increase income and promoting local economic and tourist development. The second part is demonstration area of pictures and texts, where the national-level, provincial-level and municipal-level intangible cultural heritage projects of Mianyang were presented. This part focuses on presenting the Tibetan, Qiang and Yi ecological and cultural corridors and projects in the national-level Qiang culture ecological preservation area. Meanwhile, theoretical research books, illustrated handbooks of intangible cultural heritage, oral history, audio-visual products, collected objects and pictures from training institutes are exhibited by themes in forms of showcases or display racks. The third part is cultural investment-attraction area, which fully demonstrates the achievements of creative conversion and innovative development of traditional culture, aiming to attract investment for characteristic intangible cultural heritage projects and well-developed cultural industries in Mianyang. Additionally, during the Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, there'll be 9 Theme Day performances held in Mianyang county (urban district) with the theme of ¡°The Birthplace of Libai; China Science and Technology City¡±.

It's learned that this Intangible Festival is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, People's Government of Sichuan Province, UNESCO and Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, with the theme of ¡°Lively Practice of Inheritance and Development¡±. With the main line of ¡°World Wide Trend, Chinese Festival, Chinese Opera and Chinese Craftsmanship¡±, the Festival includes a series of activities, such as a series of major exhibitions of international intangible cultural heritage, international conferences and international forums, competitions relevant with intangible cultural heritage. The Festival will conclude on the 18th.

It's known that the opening ceremony of ¡°Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival¡± starts simultaneously with more than 1000 events nationwide of the first ¡°Cultural and Natural Heritage Day¡±. Furthermore, the number of countries, districts and international organizations participating in the Festival exceeds 100, with more than 1100 representative intangible cultural heritage projects of active or physical demonstrations and performances.

Member of the standing committee of municipal party committee, propaganda department director Zhang Xuemin and the deputy mayor Jiang Liying attended the opening ceremony, communicated with the inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in the Mianyang Pavilion and encouraged them to make intangible cultural heritage more attractive by inheriting with innovations, make great efforts to dig into traditional culture and create intangible cultural heritage products with innovations. They also indicated to strengthen the market awareness, make cultural and creative products accessible to ordinary people and speed up the industrialized development of intangible cultural heritage projects.

In 2006, the State Council set the second Saturday in June every year as the ¡°Cultural Heritage Day¡±. And in 2016, the ¡°Cultural Heritage Day¡± was changed to "Cultural and Natural Heritage Day¡±.
