The 16th International Forum for Modern Disaster & Emergency Medicine China (Mianyang) Is Held in Mianyang

From May 5 to May 6, the 16th International Forum for Modern Disaster & Emergency Medicine China (Mianyang) and the 10th anniversary of the May 12 Wenchuan Earthquake was held in Mianyang. Wang Yundou, deputy secretary of the China Association for Disaster & Emergency Rescue Medicine (CADERM), Zhang Xuemin, member of the standing committee of the municipal party committee and director of the Publicity Department, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Jiang Liying, deputy mayor hosted the opening ceremony of the forum.

In his speech, Wang said that disaster & emergency medicine is a scientific method for disaster rescue under emergencies. It involves all aspects and stages in disaster relief, and includes education the public on disaster prevention and establishing professional rescue team. China is a country with frequent natural disasters. Disasters of various kinds each year bring huge economic losses and threaten to many people. Therefore, the development of disaster & emergency medicine is very important.

Zhang said that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and with help from other cities and all sectors of the society, Mianyang has won the victory of disaster relief and develop the spirit of unity, courage, people-oriented and scientific thinking that characterized the earthquake relief effort. Over the past ten years after the earthquake, the municipal party committee and the municipal government has made good use of the reconstruction opportunity to drive economic growth and has made a historic leap in urban and rural development, infrastructure, industrial development, and social construction. Mianyang has been focusing on the development of the health industry and always put the people's health and security at the first place. Mianyang has made more efforts to improve the medical and health conditions and people's health.

At the forum, souvenirs were presented to 17 foreign medical teams that helped Mianyang during the May 12 Wenchuan Earthquake to express our gratitude for their hard work in the disaster relief work. Also, a disaster & emergency medicine management alliance that consists of firefighters, traffic police, hospitals, media, medical insurance, companies, and volunteers, was established at the event.

The disaster & emergency medicine management of China Science and Technology City (Mianyang) forum and the reconstruction after earthquake forum was also held. Experts from the medical team that helped Mianyang in the Wenchuan Earthquake, and domestic disaster medicine experts discussed on disaster relief, disaster response, disaster medicine management disciplines development and proposed new ideas in their exchange and communication.
