Good News for the Poverty Alleviation Work in Mianyang

From January to April, 17,800 people were lifted out of poverty, completing 50.02% of the annual goal

Mianyang continues to strengthen measures for poverty alleviation since the beginning of this year. Statistics showed that from January to April, with the help of various departments at all levels, 17,800 people in poverty-stricken areas were lifted out of poverty, accounting for 50.02% of the total number of people in the poverty alleviation plan. Ití»s good news for the poverty alleviation work in Mianyang.

Early preparation in planning and actions provided a solid foundation for the poverty alleviation work. An official from the municipal bureau of poverty alleviation and immigration said that Mianyang implemented the poverty alleviation work quickly and created a good environment for the poverty alleviation with early preparation, quick response and practical measures.

At the beginning of 2018, Mianyang published the Key Tasks for Poverty Alleviation in 2018 and the Annual Implementation Plan for 22 Poverty Alleviation Projects, to improve the mechanism that provides development chances or employment for people in poor areas to help them get out of poverty with financial funding. Mianyang implemented "checklist system, responsibility system and supervision system", and published the funding breakdowns and projects progress to integrate resources and funding to put the poverty alleviation work into practice. At present, over 90% of over 600 major projects in the 22 poverty alleviation plan were launched and steady progress was made in the funding and construction of the projects.

Mianyang actively improved the income of people in poor villages with measures to provide employment for them. Mianyang will also implement talent training programs to improve the labor and practical skills, and education for the people by training and supporting entrepreneurship and jobs in non-governmental organizations. Statistics show that from January to April, Mianyang has held 16 special job fairs for people in poor areas and has helped over 900 people to find a job or improve their income.

Mianyang also made good use of the spring time for agriculture to improve agricultural production and employment for poverty alleviation. Mianyang implemented measures to provide training for people with agricultural skills and conduct publicity for poverty alleviation in developing the agricultural industry, so as to implement the poverty alleviation work with the agriculture. In the first quarter of this year, Mianyang's newly established and upgraded agricultural bases was 45,000 acres, with 1.04 million pigs, cattle and sheep, and 11.88 million small poultry. A total of 23,000 acres of high-standard farmland was newly established and 5 new and renovated irrigation stations were built.

Mianyang continued to focus on safe housing guarantees, putting the improvement of residential environment as a priority in the poverty alleviation work, coordinating the policies for renovation of dilapidated houses and relocation of villages to improve the conditions of the villages. Statistics show that as of the end of April, 2124 dilapidated households were under construction for renovation and the renovation of 890 houses was completed.

In the poverty alleviation action, Mianyang made fully use of the 46 Measures to Tackle the Problem of Poverty, with a focus on policy implementing, project construction, housing security, and sort out problems and published responsibilities checklist. Mianyang took actions to finding the problem and deficiencies in the poverty alleviation work and organized 8 supervision teams to conduct supervision every month, which found out 448 problems, of which 310 were solved and improved.
