(Mianyang News) On March 23, our reporter has learned from Mianyang Municipal Association for Science and Technology that the investigation result of the civic scientific literacy of our city in 2017 has been released recently. Results show that the evaluation of scientific literacy of citizens in our city reached 7.3%, higher than the overall level of the province (6.9%), ranking the second in the province. It shows that Mianyang has the scientific and technological manpower base in the innovative area.

In accordance with the uniformed requirements of China Association for Science and Technology and Provincial Association for Science and Technology, China Science and Technology Research Institute commissioned by the municipal association for science and technology conducted a sample survey on the civic scientific literacy of our city from August to October last year. This survey mainly covered Mianyang citizens, aged from 18 to 69 years old, with a total of 1500 samples and 1480 valid samples.

The results of the survey show that the level of scientific literacy of the related groups in our city has a strong group attribute. Firstly, from the urban and rural classification, the level of scientific quality of urban residents is obviously higher than that of rural residents. Secondly, from the age classification, the scientific quality of the youth group is higher, and the level of scientific quality is obviously decreased with the increase of age. Thirdly, from the gender classification, the level of scientific quality of male citizens is higher than that of female citizens. Fourth, from the level of education, with the promotion of education, the level of citizens' scientific quality has been significantly improved. Fifth, from the perspective of occupational categories, the scientific quality of leading cadres and civil servants is higher than that of urban labor and farmers among the key groups in the Outline of Science Quality, but there is still potential for improvement.
